The triple camera at the back is a big deal too – it has a 50 MP main sensor from OmniVision, 50 MP Samsung ISOCELL ultra-wide lens, and a 2 MP depth sensor. There is nothing exciting (on paper) about that depth sensor, but we will see how it performs in portrait photography. The Edge X30 is also one of the first smartphones to ship with Android 12, and under the hood is a cutting edge Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 – the most powerful chipset in any Android smartphone in the market. The X30 is the first phone to use this chipset.
Moto Edge X30 is the first smartphone to use Snapdragon 8 Gen 1
Wait; I already mentioned this; didn’t I? Well, you get to hear it again, just in case it didn’t register the first time. Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the successor to the flagship-grade Snapdragon 888. It is the alpha of the pack, and this Moto phone is the first to feature it. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 tops the AnTuTu 9 benchmark table with 996634 points. That’s about 20% faster than the runner-up device, ASUS ROG Smartphone For Snapdragon Insiders (12GB + 256GB variant) which is powered by Snapdragon 888. The Moto Edge X30 is a beast, whether you are looking at raw or refined power.
Moto Edge X30 has a 60-megapixel Selfie Camera
How many smartphones have you seen with a 60MP selfie camera? We know that megapixel count is not everything, but there is no denying what is possible with a high resolution camera – more details, and greater sharpness. The Moto Edge X30’s selfie camera promises these. I will be interested in giving it a spin to see the quality of selfies it produces. And this is worth mentioning – one variant of the X30 has the 60MP camera under-display, one of the first phones with such an arrangement.
Moto Edge X30 has 68W super fast charging
I am a sucker for the fastest fast charging standards. The last thing I want to do is be tethered to a charging socket for extended periods. Which is why the 68W fast charging of the Edge X30 tickles me silly. It will power up the phone from 0 to 100% in 35 minutes flat. That’s what I’m talking about. I know there are faster charging standards out there, but there are not a lot of flagships equipped with those. The Moto Edge X30 charges much faster than the iPhone 13 models, Samsung Galaxy S21 series, and Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. Not one of them charges faster than 30W. The X30 leaves them all in the dust.
Moto Edge X30 has a mouthwatering price
A super strong point of the Moto Edge X30 was launched with such a low price, when compared to other premium flagships, that it is mouthwatering. A top tier chipset and cutting edge specs in a sleek package that comes to prices equivalent to US$500 for the base variant, and US$630 for the top variant makes the Edge X30 an irresistible offer. It has four variants – 8 GB + 128 GB, 8GB + 256GB, 12GB + 256GB, and 12GB + 256GB (Special Edition, with an under-display selfie camera). That’s a lot of options for buyers to choose from. Just pick which tickles your fancy the most, or fits your pocket.

In conclusion, the Moto Edge X30 does not have any real competition in the market right now. Motorola has outdone itself with this model. It is on sale from December 15, 2021 and its first real competition will only hit the market when other brands start releasing flagships with the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 that this Moto uses. Until then, the X30 is it. And even after those competing phones show up, the price of the Moto Edge X30 is likely to keep it the most value for money premium flagship in the market for a long time. If the Moto Edge X30 shows up near me, I am going to do everything in my power to get my hands on it. Hopefully, it will be officially available in the USA in Q1 2022.
